When do you need images under 10KB?

A 10KB file-size limit is one of the strictest you will encounter online, and it almost always applies to digital signatures and small icons rather than full photographs. Government portals in India — including those for SSC, UPSC, and IBPS exam applications — routinely ask candidates to upload a scanned signature image that is under 10KB. The same limit appears on many state public service commission forms, university registration portals, and banking recruitment sites.

Getting a scanned signature below 10KB without destroying legibility can be frustrating. Most phone cameras produce images that are several megabytes, and even a tightly cropped signature scan often lands between 50KB and 200KB. This tool lets you set 10KB as the target and handles the compression automatically — no Photoshop, no guesswork.

Common scenarios

  • SSC, UPSC, and IBPS exam forms — These portals typically require a signature image in JPG format, between 1KB and 10KB, with dimensions around 140 × 60 pixels.
  • State PSC and railway recruitment — RRB NTPC, state civil service, and police recruitment forms often mirror the SSC signature spec: under 10KB in JPG or PNG.
  • Bank and insurance applications — IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, LIC AAO, and similar forms ask for a scanned signature that fits within a 10KB ceiling.
  • Small icons and favicons — Web developers sometimes need tiny icon files under 10KB for favicons, notification badges, or app launcher icons where every byte counts.

How to compress an image to 10KB

  1. Set the target to 10KB — The compressor above is already configured to 10KB. Adjust if you need a slightly different limit.
  2. Drop your image — Drag your scanned signature or icon into the drop zone, or tap to select a file. Compression starts instantly.
  3. Download the result — Once processing finishes, download the compressed file. The output size is shown so you can verify it meets the requirement.

Tips for maintaining quality at 10KB

At 10KB you are working with very little data, so preparation matters. Crop the image tightly before compressing — remove all unnecessary whitespace around a signature. Use a white or transparent background; complex backgrounds eat into your byte budget. If the portal accepts PNG, a signature with flat colors often compresses better in PNG than JPG. For JPG, keep dimensions small (under 200 pixels wide) to give the encoder more quality headroom per pixel.

If the result looks too blurry, try scanning or photographing your signature with higher contrast — a dark pen on bright white paper compresses more efficiently because there is less colour variation for the encoder to preserve.

Need a different size?

If your form requires a larger limit, try compress to 20KB, compress to 30KB, or compress to 50KB for photos and larger images that need more detail.
